4. FERPA — Student Education Records
Millennium Beauty Institute is an educational institution that participates in federal student financial aid programs administered by the U.S. Department of Education. As such, we are subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1232g, and its implementing regulations at 34 C.F.R. Part 99.
4.1 Your FERPA Rights
Enrolled and formerly enrolled students (or their parents/guardians if the student is a dependent minor) have the right to:
- Inspect and review their education records maintained by MBI within 45 days of submitting a written request;
- Request amendment of records they believe are inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of their privacy rights;
- Consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information from education records, except to the extent FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent;
- File a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged FERPA violations with the Family Policy Compliance Office, 400 Maryland Avenue SW, Washington, D.C. 20202.
4.2 Directory Information
MBI designates the following as "directory information" under FERPA: student name, enrollment status, program of study, and dates of attendance. Students may request that MBI not disclose directory information by submitting a written request to the admissions office.
4.3 Disclosures Without Consent
FERPA permits disclosure of education records without student consent in certain circumstances, including: to school officials with a legitimate educational interest; to authorized representatives of federal or state education authorities; in connection with financial aid; to accrediting organizations; in health or safety emergencies; and as otherwise required or permitted by law.

5. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: Third-party vendors who help us operate the Site and Services (e.g., Supabase for database hosting, Resend for transactional email, Sanity for content management, Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, Tidio live chat). These vendors are contractually prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than providing services to MBI.
- Federal and state agencies: As required for Title IV financial aid administration (U.S. Department of Education), NACCAS accreditation, Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers reporting, and other regulatory obligations.
- Legal compliance: When required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of MBI, our students, or the public.
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with appropriate protections for student data.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, comply with legal obligations (including applicable federal and Georgia record-retention requirements for educational institutions), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Student education records are typically retained for a minimum of five years following a student's last date of attendance.
7. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
In the event of a data breach that affects your rights or freedoms, we will notify affected individuals and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
8. Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
Under Georgia law, applicants must be at least 18 years old to sign an enrollment agreement. Emancipated minors age 16 or older may enroll with proof of emancipation. Where parental consent is required by applicable law for enrollment or data processing, we will obtain such consent.
